Justin Brunelle is a native of Virginia, living and working in Hampton Roads. Justin holds a PhD in Computer Science from Old Dominion University where his research focused on web science and information retrieval. As Chief Scientist of the Software Engineering Innovation Center at The MITRE Corporation, he conducts research to help government sponsors more efficiently and effectively adopt emerging technologies and implement technology-focused innovation. He continues to research topics in web science and web-based information retrieval through MITRE IR&D and continues to publish and serve as a reviewer for conferences and journals. In his role as Chief Scientist, Justin is responsible for the internal and external research presence and activities of the 500+ staff in the Software Engineering Innovation Center, including the division's Science and Technology Strategy. Justin's responsibilities include increasing the science and technology outputs of the Software Engineering Innovation Center and MITRE Labs, at large. Justin's current MITRE research is focused on legacy IT modernization to help the government become more efficient. This research focuses primarily on AI-driven software engineering's role in the modernization process.
